Dryness & hydration · Routine

How do I layer hydration properly?

Apply water-based layers to slightly damp skin, thinnest first, and finish with something that slows how fast that water leaves.

Humectants attract water. Without a step over the top, that water can leave as quickly as it arrived, which is why hydrating serums alone sometimes make skin feel tighter.

Two light layers plus a moisturizer usually outperforms one thick product.

What may be happening

  • Hydrating layers may be evaporating without anything sealing them
  • Skin may be fully dry before the layers go on
  • The last step may be too light to hold anything

What people usually notice

  • Skin feeling tight shortly after a hydrating serum
  • Products absorbing instantly with no lasting comfort
  • Comfort in the evening that is gone by morning

Common routine mistakes

  • Using humectants alone in dry air
  • Applying to bone-dry skin
  • Layering four hydrating products with no seal

What to prioritize

  • Work on slightly damp skin
  • Layer light to rich
  • Always finish with a moisturizer

Removes the day without leaving skin feeling stripped.

  2. Hydrate

Adds water-based comfort in light layers.

  3. Moisturize
