Sensitivity · What this usually means

Why does a new product sting when I apply it?

Stinging usually means the product is reaching skin that is already compromised, or that the formula is stronger than your skin currently tolerates.

Transient tingling and real stinging are different. Warmth that settles in under a minute is common; stinging that persists is a reason to stop and simplify.

When the barrier is already stressed, even mild formulas can feel sharp.

What may be happening

  • The skin barrier may be stressed from over-cleansing or exfoliation
  • The formula may be stronger than needed for now
  • Several actives may be layered too closely together

What people usually notice

  • Stinging on application that lasts
  • Redness that stays after an hour
  • Products that used to feel fine now feeling sharp

Common routine mistakes

  • Pushing through the stinging
  • Adding a second active to test
  • Skipping patch testing

What to prioritize

  • Stop the product and simplify for two weeks
  • Rebuild with cleanser, moisturizer and sun protection only
  • Reintroduce one product at a time

Where this fits in a routine

  1. Cleanse

Removes the day without leaving skin feeling stripped.

  2. Moisturize

Holds hydration in place and softens the surface.

Product characteristics that tend to fit

  • Fragrance-light comforting moisturizer
  • Very gentle cleanser

Next step

Rebuild from a short routine matched to reactive skin.
